Cheap Flights Bookings>Information>Hand baggage allowance Hand baggage allowanceNew security restrictions on Hand luggage came into effect for all flights from UK airports. We have some guidelines here, but they are subject to change at short notice. If you are in doubt, you should always check the exact hand luggage allowance with your airline prior to packing. The following information is for guidance only as rules are subject to change by the airlines or UK regulations. If in doubt, check with the airline or the airport before packing for your flight. All passengers are now restricted to ONE item of hand baggage. The maximum dimensions are: 56 centimetres long [approximately 22 inches], 45 centimetres high [approximately 17.5 inches], 25 centimetres deep [approximately 9.85 inches] including wheels, handles, side pocket. There are hand baggage measurement gauges for checking baggage dimensions at the airports. If your hand luggage doesn't fit into the metal box, you won't be able to carry it on the flight and will need to check it in as hold luggage. Large Musical instruments, which do not fit in the permitted cabin baggage size, are allowed as a second item of cabin baggage. These will need to be screened. If they do not fit into the overhead lockers, you may need to make other arrangements with the airline. Laptops and other large electrical items have to be removed from cabin baggage and screened separately. If you are carrying a laptop in its own case, it will be regarded as your one item that is allowed in the cabin. Pushchairs, walking aids and wheelchairs are permitted but will be screened. ![]() Written on: 20th July 2007 |
