Cheap Flights Bookings>Information>Airport security guidelines Airport security guidelinesSecurity operations at Britain's airports have to cope with Millions of passengers going on flights through the UK airports every year. If you follow these guidelines, it should make life easier on airport security personnel, avoid delays and make the journey more pleasant for you.- Arrive at the airport in plenty of time before your flight. You should aim for: three hours before International flights, two hours before European flights and 90 minutes for domestic flights.
- Carry at least one form of photo ID at all times. A second photo ID might be required at some airports.
- Check your flight information with the airline to 48 hours prior to flight departure
- There are restrictions on where you can park/stop your car so don't assume you can pull up outside the terminal. If leaving your car at the airport, make sure you can either drop off passengers before going to the car park or you can transfer to the terminal from the car park.
- Make sure your luggage has tags with your name and is secure. (See our notes on luggage security)
- Make sure your hand luggage is within the regulations and that you are not carrying any items that are prohibited on flights.
- Never carry items for other people, especially strangers.
- Never leave your luggage unattended.
- After checking in, proceed to the departure lounge where you will go through airport security screening. Have your boarding card (and passport for International flights) ready. All hand baggage will be passed through an X-ray scanner and should be kept within regulations.
- After security check the flights departure board for flights times and departure gate.
- Go to the departure gate once it is displayed on the flights departure board.
